Maybe I can

Long ago, a college professor pronounced my poetry to be non poetic. Maybe. But just as likely I write poetry.
You see, my love of children's books instilled within me a strong affinity for rhyme and in her opinion, "Poetry doesn't rhyme." Maybe. But just as likely it does.
My preference for rhyme doesn't mean I'm doomed to write in it. I can happily follow the rhythm of a limerick and haiku. Here are a few recent musings.

Leak
snow drips from dark skies
wrapping Earth in a blanket
of white crystals
tiny flakes reveal
we patched the wrong hole — or else
there is another
In the balance
chant a dirge
as freedom's weighed,
thumb heavy on the scale
Possibility
palms open, face up,
reticent yet willing to
receive the unknown
Truth be told, you and I will likely never be a pulitzer prize poet, and that's okay.
The joy is in the writing.
